In an Australian first, Victoria’s Procurement and Contracting Centre for Education and Research (PACCER) has received international accreditation for its training courses, Minister for Finance John Lenders said today.

Mr Lenders said no other public or private training course in Australia has been accredited by the UK Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), which is recognised in 120 countries.

“This accreditation is important because it recognises the growth of procurement as a profession,” Mr Lenders said.

“By offering the very best in procurement training to participants around

Australia, the Victorian Government is also helping to ensure more efficient procurement processes and better value for money outcomes can be achieved nationally,” Mr Lenders said.

CIPSA Vic/Tas Region Goes to Uni!

As part of developing and building awareness of Young Procurement Professionals, Peter Mackie (CIPSA's Young Professional's Portfolio Officer/Manager) recently talked to RMIT students about career opportunities in procurement and the advantages of being a CIPSA member.

RMIT is the first university approached as part of this campaign - the first audience comprising of approximately sixty third-year logistics students. The idea was to deliver a short and concise 10-minute presentation, however an hour later, Peter was still answering questions about the profession and CIPS Australia. Peter also addressed a smaller group of supply chain students later the same day.

Next, the region hopes to make presentations at other universities, TAFEs and business schools in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and Tasmania, as well as to hold focus groups in 2007 for young professionals and students.

CIPS UK- Membership and Education

At the end of August, CIPS membership worldwide was around 41,000 – well ahead of the institute’s overall target of 38,800 for the financial year ending 31 October 2006. International growth has been particularly strong, and the development of the membership base in Australia and New Zealand has been a significant contributory factor.

Examination entries are breaking records year after year. The May 2006 exam series exceeded the previous series by almost 20% and we anticipate that the May and November exams will top 44,000 entries – the best ever entry level. We are currently taking registrations for the November 2006 examinations and expect another strong entry list.
