On 18 August 2006, the ACT Regional Committee was very pleased to present the inaugural seminar in its Free Procurement Seminar Series. The speaker was Mr Michael Vincent, a senior lecturer at Monash University and the Director of the Risk Management Academic Programs. Michael's talk was both

informative and entertaining - with good feedback from an audience that was comprised of over 70 attendees from a variety of backgrounds including Federal, state and local government as well as private industry and academia.

The topic of the seminar was Procurement and Risk – the information provided was focused on risk management and included identifying and managing risk at different phases of the procurement cycle, integrated risk management, Best Practice principles and the hidden value proposition.

The PDF version of the booklet of slides used by Michael is available for download from: www.cipsa.com.au - follow the regions link, then select ACT. Details of future Seminars in the Series will be advertised shortly.

CIPS UK- Membership and Education

At the end of August, CIPS membership worldwide was around 41,000 – well ahead of the institute’s overall target of 38,800 for the financial year ending 31 October 2006. International growth has been particularly strong, and the development of the membership base in Australia and New Zealand has been a significant contributory factor.

Examination entries are breaking records year after year. The May 2006 exam series exceeded the previous series by almost 20% and we anticipate that the May and November exams will top 44,000 entries – the best ever entry level. We are currently taking registrations for the November 2006 examinations and expect another strong entry list.
