SA/NT PresentationOn 6 April Keith Barber, Secretary CIPSA SA/NT, provided a presentation to the G6 Local Government Purchasing Group. This group comprises a number of corporate and procurement executives from the six major Councils in South Australia (namely Adelaide, Charles Sturt, Marion, Onkaparinga, Tea Tree Gully and Salisbury). The aim of this presentation was to introduce CIPSA and highlight the potential benefits membership holds for the local government procurement community and the development of its practitioners. As the Procurement Coordinator for the City of Salisbury, it was Keith’s own goal to encourage membership in order to further develop a local government procurement network. The presentation was well received with a number of attendees expressing interest in membership. |

CIPSA Event South AustraliaThe next South Australian event is on 24 May from 4:00pm to 6:30pm and will include a site visit to the SA based Coopers Brewing and a presentation on Value Stream Mapping. See first hand the stages of the Coopers supply chain and hear how systems are being used to manage the process. Then hear how the technique of Value Stream Mapping can be applied to the procurement process. The fundamental premise underlying Lean Manufacturing is that all organisations have parts of their processes/actions that do not add value to the product or service they provide, and therefore equals waste (non value adding). Value stream mapping works around the principle of capturing a before & after visual “map” of a process & ways to improve the cycle & turn it into a value added process. The event will conclude with time for a discussion on how theory meets practice and the applications in our own organisations. Presenters will include Tom Bullock - Development Manager, Coopers Brewing and Andrew Marshall – Manager Manufacturing Excellence, Department of Trade & Economic Development. Attendees will need to wear covered in shoes and be on site by 4:00pm Coopers Brewing is located on the corner of Regency and South Roads, with entry to the car park from South Road. Members and non members welcome. Please register your interest at CIPSA by emailing ebony.lowther@cipsa.com.au. |
