Members Web Forum LiveCIPSA committee in New South Wales have started using the new pilot web forum – an online networking tool for CIPSA members in New South Wales only. The New South Wales Committee developed the idea of the web forum to facilitate networking throughout the State. Not only do NSW have active members in remote locations such as Newcastle, Dubbo and Wollongong, but also across disparate areas nearer the city – North Shore, CBD, Parramatta and near Sydney airport. NSW Regional Chair David Sharam said, “We wanted a way that New South Wales members could network in real time on a wide range of subjects despite the geographical difficulties of getting everyone together on a regular basis. The web forum was the ideal way to do it. SMART 2007 CommitteeThe SMART 2007 Organising Committee has a new face at the table representing CIPSA. Declan Devanney, Procurement Manager at Sydney University, has joined the SMART Committee on behalf of CIPSA. The other CIPSA seat is filled ably by longstanding SMART committee member Geoff Woods, Procurement Manager at Power One. Both Declan and Geoff also sit on the CIPSA New South Wales Regional Committee. Together, Declan and Geoff will be responsible for ensuring the procurement elements of the SMART 2007 conference are as relevant as possible to the needs of supply chain managers attending the event. CIPSA fully endorse the SMART 2007 event and remain active partners in the conference which is scheduled for 20 and 21 June 2007. The SMART 07 call for papers is due out in August 2006. Third Regional Chairs’ MeetingThe Chairs for each of the CIPSA Regional Committees will meet again for an all-day business meeting on 16 August 2006 at the CIPSA offices in Melbourne. The agenda will include a thorough update on all CIPSA activities, updating the regional business plans, regional event programs and detailed coordination of all work on the professional agenda within each region. A list of the top ten regional issues facing procurement today will be compiled – consolidating the top ten issues identified by each region. The marking scheme for the CIPSA National Essay Competition and the selection process for the Queensland Scholarship Prize will also be discussed. Details of all items in the agenda will be revealed to members in the coming months. CIPSA National Essay Competition closes 31 AugustThe closing date for entries for the CIPSA National Essay Competition, sponsored by CQU and Curtin Business School, is 31 August 2006. A Practical Guide to Ethics and Probity in Procurement PracticesThe Victorian Regional Committee are running a workstream to define a set of practical guidelines, covering procurement ethics and best practice probity for day-to-day use by practitioners in all segments of the profession. The work incorporates the standard CIPSA code of ethics (available on the CIPSA website: www.cips.org) and the Commonwealth Procurement Guidelines. Members Renew in DrovesTotal CIPSA membership numbers exceeded 2,000 paid members for the first time in early June 2006. However, 81% of CIPSA members’ subscriptions are due for renewal during June, July and August. At the time of writing over 50% of the members due for renewal had already renewed their membership early. The current “firm decline” rate of only 1.9% is exceedingly low by membership organisation standards. A renewal campaign is currently in place to remind members who have not yet renewed to do so by 31 August. All members are requested to renew promptly to avoid missing the extraordinary range of member benefits at CIPSA. Members can renew any time simply by calling the team in the CIPSA office on 1300 765 142. |

SMART 2007 Call for PapersCIPSA is again endorsing the SMART Supply Chain Conference, held by biannually in Darling Harbour Conference Centre, Sydney. SMART 2007 is to be held between 20 and 21 June 2007, and falls in the midst of an extensive CIPSA conferencing program to be hosted in each state capital as well as Canberra throughout the 2007 season The call for papers for SMART 2007 will be released in August. Magic and LogicIn collaboration with the leading associations for advertising agencies and marketing practitioners (the IPA and ISPA), CIPS has published a new paper in the UK ‘Magic and Logic: Redefining Sustainable Business Practices for Advertising Agencies, Marketing and Procurement’. The paper describes how procurement and marketing can work together for a ‘win win’ situation. The paper can be accessed at: www.magicandlogic.co.uk CIPSA has worked closely with the Advertising Federation of Australia (AFA) over the last year to drive forward similar developments in the Australian market. In addition, the Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) presented at the ‘How Do We Measure Up?’ conference on performance measurement in Melbourne on 29 June. An article by the AFA is planned for the next Procurement Professional magazine: PP9, due out 17th October as the conference issue. |
The Corporate Award 5 and 6Programs 5 and 6 are now being finalised for The Corporate Award – the applied learning process leading to MCIPS. Both programs are open courses in Melbourne and Sydney/Brisbane respectively. These courses are expected to start in late September and just a few places are still available on either course. Program 3 and 4, for Parmalat and Norske Skog, both started in May. The original programs 1 and 2 for Australia Post, BHP Billiton, Coles Myer and Telstra, come to a conclusion in August after 17 months. 29 delegates from programs 1 and 2 are expected to graduate imminently. Final marks are still awaited prior to a graduation dinner being arranged for late August. Should the delegates from Corporate Award programs 1 and 2 be successful, the total number of full members MCIPS in Australia will exceed 130. |

International Federation of Purchasing and Supply ManagementKen James, CEO of CIPS, was appointed President of IFPSM early in 2006 for a two-year period. The recent IFPSM Board meeting in Minneapolis, USA reached agreements on a new business plan and key priorities for their programme of work for 2006 and 2007. In March 2007, CIPS will be organising and hosting a major knowledge-sharing event for IFPSM in the UK. Representatives from each of the 42 professional body members of IFPSM are expected to attend. The event will run alongside the IPSERA conference, which CIPS UK are also helping to organise. It is possible that the next event in March 2008 will be held in Perth, WA and hosted by CIPSA. |
